YOUTH PREGNANCY AND PARENTING PROGRAM(YPPP)

YPPP serves Vancouver youth up to 22 years old. This program offers a variety of youth friendly services that include: complete prenatal, postnatal (up to 6 weeks), and 24-hr emergency care by doctors.  Additionally, a pregnancy outreach program provided through Healthiest Babies Possible (HBP), prenatal & parenting education,  Birth Doulas,  a Father’s group, Parenting Drop-in until baby reaches 18 months, Community Health Nurses, Social Workers, Dietitians, Outreach Support Workers, Clinical Counsellors, Drug & Alcohol Counsellors, and Breastfeeding Counsellors.

I am a YPPP DOULA and I provide physical and emotional nurturing, informal support, and act as an advocate for YPPP participants. The support that these young women receive from my Doula care is invaluable to them as they often have very little support, the pregnancies were not planned, and many of the young women are still in highschool.

If you have baby clothing, baby furniture, bottles, swings, car seats,
strollers, carriers, toys, or anything else a new mother could use please contact me to donate your items to the Youth Pregnancy and Parenting Program.

MaternityWise is program that was started by a birth advocate and business growth  educator , Chris Anne Johnson who wanted to help other women and their families to enjoy the special time and adjustment surrounding birth. It offers certification to postpartum doulas, and in the near future;"Birth and the Family Advocates", ante-partum doulas, childbirth educators,  and breastfeeding counselors .

In July of this year I was asked by Maternity Wise to speak at their Vancouver Training regarding the Psychological Effects of How a Birth is Perceived and the Effects on Mothers and their Families.  It was an honour to be asked to present this very important information.  I was able to draw on my psychology background, my Birthing From Within training, and how this approach addresses Birth Stories utilizing my experience as a Doula.

If you have a Birth story that is bothering you and are looking for a place to review and process it please feel free to contact me and I can get you started on this journey.
